Handcrafted to Last: The Timeless Appeal of Real Cedar Furniture

There’s something you can’t fake with machinery or mass production, weight, texture, and that quiet confidence when you sit down on something solid. At Moon Valley Rustics, we’ve been making that kind of furniture since 1928. Not because it’s trendy, but because it works. Because it lasts. Because it feels right.

We started with log swings in Holly, Michigan, back when building meant you actually built things. We’re still at it, now working out of Monroe, still shaping Northern White Cedar and Ponderosa Pine by hand. We don’t outsource. We don’t take shortcuts. You won’t find glue-and-sawdust composites here. Just honest wood, turned into something useful.

You want garden furniture that holds up, not just through a season, but through years of heat, rain, wind, and family use. That’s what we make. And we make all of it ourselves, right here.

We Build It Because We Use It

We’re not furniture designers sitting in an office sketching concepts. We’re builders. Craftspeople. What we make, we’ve carried, tested, repaired, and lived with. Every contour in our seats, every dowel in our frames, it’s there because it works. Because someone sat in that chair and said, “This could be better,” and then we made it better.

The cedar we use is left natural, no fake woodgrain overlays, no chemical stains hiding flaws. Real cedar doesn’t need decoration. It smells right. It feels right. It wears in, not out. Over time, it picks up a silver-gray tone in the sun. You don’t have to treat it, but you can. Either way, it stays strong.

Our joinery is doweled, not screwed or stapled. It takes longer, but the result is sturdier, cleaner, and won’t wiggle loose with use. That’s something you’ll notice after a few seasons, when lesser furniture starts shifting or cracking, ours just stays put.

And yes, we still build the swings. The same A-frame design that’s been copied a thousand times. But ours are still the original. Still solid. Still sitting on porches across the Midwest and beyond, moving just enough to quiet the mind.

Built in Michigan - Meant for Anywhere

We don’t just stamp "Made in Michigan" on our labels; we mean it. Every piece is crafted start to finish in our Monroe facility, by people who’ve been doing this long enough to know what works and what doesn’t. We even built some of the machines ourselves, just to get the job done right.

If you’ve ever looked for real log furniture in Michigan, you’ve probably already seen our work. It’s in campgrounds, cottages, lake houses, porches, and backyards. Not flashy. Not fragile. Just real, heavy, cedar-and-pine furniture that does its job without complaint.

And it’s not just outdoor pieces. We build indoor furniture too, same quality, same process. If you’ve got a cabin or rustic interior that needs a bench, a bed frame, or a rocker, we make those too, with the same materials and same standards.

Conclusion: No Reason to Overthink It

Furniture used to be simple. You needed a seat; you built a seat. Strong, sturdy, maybe a little overbuilt, but that was the point. That’s what we’re still doing at Moon Valley. No gimmicks. No corner-cutting. Just furniture that feels like it belongs.

If you're looking for garden furniture that’s not going to end up by the curb next spring, or if you're hunting for real picnic tables in michigan that still carries the weight of tradition, you’re already in the right place. This is what we do. This is all we do.

And if you’re lucky, you’ve already got one of our pieces sitting out back somewhere. Still holding strong. Still creaking in the breeze.
